The Lecture

“International Arbitration: Challenges and Opportunities” delivered by Thayananthan Baskaran.

Thaya will focus on the differences in practice between civil proceedings and arbitration, and how these differences give rise to challenges and opportunities for a practitioner.  His lecture may be of particular interest to students and young practitioners who are considering entering this area of practice, as well as those who may be familiar with civil proceedings but not perhaps the practice of international arbitration.

The Speaker

Thayananthan Baskaran was Called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 2012. He is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and a partner at Zul Rafique in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His primary area of practice is construction law to which he brings significant experience in domestic and international matters, as well as, ad hoc and institutional proceedings. Thaya also practises as an adjudicator, arbitrator and mediator both in Kuala Lumpur and at Crown Office Chambers in London. He is also the author of publications on alternative dispute resolution.
