For the first time ever, Four First Women of the Supreme Court will come together In Conversation.
Did you know women could not practice law before 1919? To kick start the 2019 centenary celebrations, First 100 Years and Gray's Inn are delighted to invite you to a very special evening event.
The Event
Four Continents, One City, One Global Event & A FIRST for the Legal Profession
President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, Baroness Hale will be joined by Chief Justice of Australia, Susan Kiefel, former Chief Justice of Ghana, Georgina Wood, and former Chief Justice of Canada, Beverley McLachlin. All four women are Benchers of Gray's Inn.
The women will take part in a panel discussion about women in the law, facilitated by Professor Penny Andrews, Dean of Law at the University of Cape Town, and Genevieve Muinzer, author, founder of Ad Astra Communications and Vice-Chair of the Foundation for International Law. An introduction will be provided by Dame Linda Dobbs DBE, with closing remarks from Dana Denis-Smith, founder of First 100 Years.

Australia: Susan Mary Kiefel AC
First woman to be appointed Chief Justice Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia in 2017. Honorary Bencher of Gray's Inn.
Africa: Georgina Wood
First woman to be appointed to preside over the Supreme Court of Ghana in 2007. She retired in 2017. Honorary Bencher of Gray's Inn.
North America: Beverley McLachlin
First woman to be appointed to preside over the Supreme Court of Canada in 2010. Retired in December 2017. Honorary Bencher of Gray's Inn.
