Court Pupillages (Marshalling)
Marshalling is currently suspended due to Covid-19 restrictions.
We hope to re-start this scheme once we can meet social distancing requirements and, unfortunately, do not expect this to be possible until 2021. Please see our dedicated Covid-19 page for the latest updates on the Inn’s response to Covid-19 (Coronavirus).
We are able to arrange a Court Pupillage (also known as Marshalling) for you with a member of the Inn who sits on the Bench.
This offers you an excellent chance to gain insight into the role of the judiciary, court procedure and styles of advocacy.
A really fantastic experience. The judge could not have made me feel more welcome.
The programme is available from January of each academic year and is open to you if you are a member of the Inn and either:
- in your final year of university
- a current GDL student
- a current Bar Course student
If you are participating in the scheme, you may find guidance on how to address judges and others (PDF) useful.
If you have further questions regarding the programme, please email Alison Hosking in the Education Department.
