Fighting Knife Crime London - new initiative set up by Master Houlder
The website, which went live last week, aims to address the causes and effects of knife crime, and all forms of violence. It will provide an up-to-date news facility, a regular magazine, video resources, a research area and a highly accessible directory of key organisations.
More than that, the site offers a place for organisations to collaborate - a place for those who need help or would like to give it.
"After a lifetime of being a vicarious witness to tragedy and lost lives, it seemed to me the most natural thing in the world to want to take some action to change things for so many of our young, whose abandoned lives we only seem to notice when they come to the attention of the police and the criminal justice system. The responsibility of every one of us is to help to improve young lives, starting in the early years, though education and by confidence building influences on their hearts and minds. We need real investment in our young. Sentencers should derive no satisfaction from developing sentencing policy unless we can support early intervention too. Our website seeks to join everyone engaged in this fight for change together in the strongest resource forum we can possibly invent for Greater London. And that is only just a beginning.www.FightingKnifeCrime.London is far more than just a directory for Greater London of all those engaged with this problem. It is a one-stop forum for seeking solutions, for finding jobs and opportunities, mental health support and mentoring, and for inspiring community ventures relevant to the young. It is a place where you might find the value of sport and the arts to change lives. There needs to be no limit. It has additional social media resources for sharing information. It seeks to be to a place to find answers to the wide range of opportunity, and for those who seek to avoid being dragged into offending, it will be a place to find the strength of mind to resist such temptation. We ask you please to look through the multiple resources this website has to offer, and see where you might help, even if it is just to spread the word. If you wanted to write something there is an online submission form for this purpose." Bruce Houlder CB QC DL
