Francis Laird
The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill has appointed His Honour Judge Francis Laird KC to be a Senior Circuit Judge, Resident Judge based at Teesside Combined Court, with effect from 15 July 2024.
Francis Laird will continue to be known as His Honour Judge Francis Laird KC. He was called to the Bar in 1986 and took Silk in 2011. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2009 and as a Circuit Judge in 2015.

Timothy Mould
The President of the King’s Bench Division has appointed Mr Justice Timothy Mould as the Planning Liaison Judge. This is a three-year appointment that runs from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2027.
Mr Justice Mould was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1987 and took silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2018. He has been a Judge of the High Court of the King’s Bench Division since February 2024.

Amanda Yip
Lady Chief Justice has decided to appoint Mrs Justice Yip as Deputy Senior Presiding Judge of England and Wales (DSPJ) for a two-year term, with effect from 1 October 2024.
Mrs Justice Amanda Yip was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1991 and practised at Exchange Chambers in Liverpool, commencing with a broad practice encompassing crime, civil and family law before specialising in personal injury and clinical negligence work. She was appointed a Recorder in 2009, Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 2011, and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013.
She was appointed to the High Court in 2017 (Queen’s Bench Division, now King’s Bench Division). She was appointed Director of Civil Training for the Judicial College in 2019 and served as Presiding Judge of the Northern Circuit from 2020 to 2023.

Thomas Linden
Mr Justice Linden has been appointed as a Presiding Judge to the Western Circuit where he will succeed Mrs Justice Cutts.
Mr Justice Thomas Linden was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1989 and took silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2005, a Deputy High Court Judge in 2019 and a High Court Judge in January 2020.
Presiding Judges are responsible for the deployment of the judiciary and allocation of cases on their Circuit. They also have a responsibility for general supervision of judges on their circuits.
