Your Inn, Your Summer, Welcome Back!

The Gray's Inn Barristers' Committee (GIBC) is pleased to announce a programme of events for the Summer Term here at Gray's.

Following on from the successful GIBC Practice Development (YouTube video) tips event delivered by Petra Bailey of 3VB on 6 May, GIBC has organised the following:

Wellbeing

GIBC is hosting a Wellbeing at the Bar event on Wednesday 26th May starting at 18:00 with Steve Innes (4 New Square) and Victoria Wilson (Goldsmith Chambers). If you find yourself struggling with work-life balance, or just need some pointers to keep you happy and productive, Steve and Victoria will provide some welcome inspiration.

Pilates

Wednesday 2nd June and Wednesday 9th June 2021 at 6:30pm. Claire, a qualified Pilates instructor from Body Sculpt Pilates in Cambridge will be helping you tone up for the summer with a free online Pilates class, held via Zoom!

Yoga

Keeping in the fitness spirit, Farah Fernandes is offering two free online Yoga sessions via Zoom, on Tuesday 16th at 07:30 and Thursday 24th June.

Khushwant Singh Literary Festival

Called to the Bar at Inner Temple, Khushwant Singh was the author of Train to Pakistan, a lawyer, diplomat, journalist and politician. The most read English columnist in India, syndicated across some twenty publications and translated into 17 Indian languages. The Literary Festival celebrates and brings alive diverse subjects close to his heart and this year’s theme is “No Man is an Island”. The pandemic has brought to the forefront the idea of cooperation between nations, communities and individuals, perhaps as a launch pad for ties between India and Pakistan, for ties between troubled nations, for cooperation between man and nature, and a time to look back on other successful partnerships in the arts and in history. More details on the Festival which is running on 26 and 27 June virtually and the speakers.

The Treasurer's Hunt

With your Bridge Bar open since 17th May, Masters Ali Malek and Penny Hamilton invite you to "The Treasurer's Hunt" on Wednesday 30th June when you can find the pot of gold at the end of the Gray's Inn rainbow.  Master Hamilton has devoted the months of lockdown to pounding the pavements of WC1R, discovering various points of interest she had not noticed before.  Now its’s your turn!  There will be a top prize of a £75 voucher for food and drink at the Bridge Bar for the team of no more than four which solves the greatest number of clues in the shortest amount of time! Starting and ending at the Bridge Bar from 18:30 - and with some tucker provided to boot - this is a chance for you to explore the parts of the Inn and its surrounding streets that you may never have reached.  £10 to enter (£5 for Students) which includes a drink and a bowl of curry.

Sports Day

Our summer fitness campaign would not be complete without our Sports Day, to be held in the Walks on the afternoon of Sunday 18th July.  Can you beat the competition? Will your return to the Gray's Inn Walks rival the comeback of Rocky Balboa in 2006? It's time to get in shape for the legendary Gray's Inn egg and spoon and sack races together with all the fun of other classic sports day events! £10 to enter (£5 for Students) and more details will be released soon!

Treasurer's Reception

On the evening of Friday 23rd July the annual Treasurer’s Reception in the Walks makes a welcome return and promises to end the Summer Term with a bang. You are warmly encouraged to secure your place soon!
