A panel discussion to discuss career progression, from the perspective of junior practitioners. After the event, in person attendees will be able to continue the discussion with senior members of the Bar. Junior practitioners are particularly encouraged to attend in person, whether currently thinking of applications or not.

This event will be hosted at Byrom Street Chambers by Mary Ruck KC and Ben Berkson, Northern Circuit Representatives of GIBC. They have both have developed a programme of Inn events hosted by Chambers in the Northwest. Attendance by Junior members and practitioners from underrepresented groups is particularly encouraged at all events. Mary and Ben would be happy to be contacted by anyone wishing to know more about Inn events.

Olivia Mukherjee
Olivia Mukherjee was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 2019, Olivia joined Deans Court Chambers in September 2021 after she successfully completed her pupillage under the tutelage of Anna Bentley. She accepts instructions in the area of Family law in relation to children. As well as practising Family law, Olivia is developing a specialism for Court of Protection practice. She is a member of the Family Law Bar Association and the Court of Protection Practitioners Association (CoPPA), a multi-disciplinary organisation which aims to develop and consolidate good practice in the Court of Protection and in the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Olivia has undertaken training in mediation.
Olivia believes in the importance of championing diversity at the Bar. She is involved in Slipstream Education as a mentor and she is a supporter of Bridging the Bar.
HHJ Abigail Hudson
HHJ Hudson was called to the Bar in 2003. After two years in London primarily practicing in planning law, she moved to St Johns Buildings in Manchester and started a practice in crime. She was appointed to the Social Entitlement Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal in 2010, and then as a Criminal Recorder in 2011. At the time, she was the youngest Recorder in the country. She was authorised to sit as a Civil Recorder in 2014 and appointed to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the FtT the same year.
She continued with her practice in criminal and regulatory law and then took a sabbatical from the Bar in 2016 following the birth of her daughter, continuing to sit as a fee-paid portfolio judge. In 2018, she was appointed to the Restricted Patients Panel of the Mental Health Tribunal, and to the Tax Chamber of the FtT. In 2019 she was authorised to sit as a Family Recorder with a public and private law ticket. Having intended to return to the Bar in 2020 after the birth of her son in 2019, this plan was delayed by the Covid pandemic. In October 2023 she was appointed as a Circuit Judge in Crime, assigned to Bolton Crown Court.
She sits on the Judicial Appointments Commission as a panel member.
Andrew Singer KC
Andrew Singer KC is the Head of Kings Chambers and practices in the field of construction and associated professional negligence actions and appears regularly in the Technology & Construction Court (TCC), the Commercial Hub in Belfast and in construction-related arbitrations . Andrew’s practice consists of work derived throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Andrew is an accredited mediator with the ADR Group, an arbitrator and adjudicator and is listed on the TECBAR panels. He is also a County Court Recorder and a part time TCC Judge.
