Title: Great Advocates lecture series: Dame Rose Heilbron DBE QC– Lecture to be given by Hilary Heilbron KC.
Rose Heilbron QC was the first female King’s Counsel (later Queen’s Counsel) in 1949 and the first woman Judge in England in 1956 when she became Recorder of Burnley. She sat as a Judge at the Old Bailey in January 1972, and in October 1974 became only the second woman to be appointed to the High Court bench. Her daughter Hilary is an alumna of Lady Margaret Hall where her mother was an Honorary Fellow.
About the speaker: Hilary Heilbron KC practices from Brick Court Chambers, London. She now focuses on international arbitration, sitting as an international arbitrator. She is the author of ROSE QC: The Story of England’s First Woman Queen’s Counsel and Judge.
