The Inn takes bullying and harassment extremely seriously and seeks to play a key part in rooting it out and changing the culture in the legal profession, with the recent Harman Report, (an Independent review of bullying and harassment at the Bar commissioned by The Bar Council), highlighting the extent of the problem.
As well as Talk to Spot and the Bar Council’s other welfare support, Gray’s Inn has policies for those that wish to air a concern (using the Code of Conduct for Members) or make a complaint (Gray’s Inn’s Complaints Procedure).
We have now launched a Support Scheme, approved by the Bar Standards Board (BSB), to provide our Members with swift pastoral support, regardless of whether they subsequently wish to raise a concern or make a complaint.
This scheme provides informal, one to one welfare support directly from Members of the Inn or the Inn’s Preacher.
The scheme’s panel is headed by a senior Bencher and is diverse in age, experience and discipline. All have received training and will contact the affected person as soon as possible. Only anonymised records will be kept.
Members can access the Gray’s Inn Support Scheme, raise a concern or make a complaint, by contacting one of the Inn’s designated employees.
