Melanie Plimmer
The Senior President of Tribunals, the Right Honourable Sir James Dingemans, has appointed Melanie Plimmer as Deputy Chamber President of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the Upper Tribunal with effect from 28 August 2025.
Melanie Plimmer will be known as Deputy Chamber President Plimmer. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1996. In 2006 she was appointed as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in 2010. She was appointed as a Judge of the First-tier Tribunal (Health, Education, and Social Care Chamber) in 2014 and a Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) in 2015.
In 2019 she was authorised to sit as a High Court Judge (Family and Kings Bench Divisions) under section 9(1) of the Senior Courts Act 1981. In 2020 she was appointed as a Senior Judge in the Sovereign Base Areas of Cyprus. In 2022 she was appointed as Chamber President of the First-tier Tribunal, Immigration and Asylum Chamber. In 2024 she was appointed a Justice of the British Indian Ocean Territory Court of Appeal. In 2025 she was appointed Circuit Liaison President for the Northern Circuit.

Sheikh Karim
The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, has appointed 24 Deputy High Court Judges, under section 9(4) of the Senior Courts Act 1981, for a single fixed six-year term. The appointments run from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2031.
Sheikh Karim KC has been appointed following an open competition run by the Judicial Appointments Commission.
