The Inn is delighted to note the Judicial appointments of the following Gray’s Inn Members in December 2024.

Georgina Sharkey

Her Honour Judge Georgina Sharkey has been appointed as Deputy Chief Coroner of England and Wales in succession to Her Honour Judge Alexia Durran’s appointment to Chief Coroner and the retirement of Senior Coroner Derek Winter.

The appointments take effect on 1 January 2025 for a three-year term.

The appointments are made by the Lady Chief Justice and Lord Chancellor under the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.

The Chief Coroner, supported by two deputies, provides judicial leadership for coroners and the coroner service in England and Wales, as well as issuing national guidance and leading training for coroners.

Her Honour Judge Sharkey was called to the Bar in 2000. She was appointed as an Assistant Coroner in 2016 and in 2019 appointed as a Circuit Judge based at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Richardo Childs

The King has appointed Richardo Childs to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.

The Lady Chief Justice has deployed him to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Sheffield Combined County Court with effect from 3 February 2025.

Richardo Childs will be known as District Judge Childs. He was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 2013. He was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2022.

Lynn Griffin

The King has appointed Lynn Griffin to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.

The Lady Chief Justice has deployed her to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Inner London Crown Court, with effect from 13 January 2025.

Lynn Griffin will be known as Her Honour Judge Griffin. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1991. She was appointed as a Salaried Judge of the First-tier Tribunal in 2018 and has been assigned to the General Regulatory Chamber since 2021.
