Recorder Appointments
The King has appointed 97 Recorders on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, Master The Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill. The appointments will take effect on 18 November 2024. Twelve are Gray’s Inn Members as follows:

Penelope Ireland
The King has appointed Penelope Ireland to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.
The Lady Chief Justice has deployed her to the Northern Circuit, based at Manchester Civil Justice Centre, with effect from 2 December 2024.
Penelope Ireland will be known as Her Honour Judge Ireland. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1996. She was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2010 and as a District Judge in 2018.

Siew Loke
The King has appointed Siew Loke to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.
The Lady Chief Justice has deployed her to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Basildon Crown Court, with effect from 13 January 2025.
Siew Loke will be known as Her Honour Judge Loke. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 2003. She was appointed as a Salaried Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, in 2018. She was also appointed as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) in 2022 and as a Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge, in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, in 2024.

Gabrielle Wenham
The King has appointed Gabrielle Wenham to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.
The Lady Chief Justice has deployed her to the Northern Circuit, based at Stockport County Court and Family Court with effect from 6 January 2025.
Gabrielle Wenham will be known as District Judge Wenham. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 2010. She was appointed as a Deputy District Judge and as a Fee paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber, in 2021.

Rachel Galloway
The King has appointed Rachel Galloway to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.
The Lady Chief Justice has deployed her to the Northern Circuit, based at Bolton Crown Court, with effect from 24 February 2025.
Rachel Galloway, will be known as Her Honour Judge Galloway. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 2004. She was appointed as an Assistant Coroner in 2016, a Deputy District Judge in 2019 and as a Salaried Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, in 2021.

Alev Giz
The King has appointed Alev Giz to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Shabana Mahmood MP, and the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill.
The Lady Chief Justice has deployed her to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Luton Justice Centre, with effect from 6 January 2025.
Alev Giz will be known as Her Honour Judge Giz. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1988. She was appointed as a Recorder in 2022. She was also appointed as a Nominated Tier 2 Judge of the Court of Protection in 2023.
