The Inn is proud to announce a new portrait of The Rt Hon Lady Rose of Colmworth DBE, a Justice of the Supreme Court and Bencher of the Inn, painted by portrait artist, Keith Breeden.
Installed in Gray’s Inn Hall on Wednesday 28 October, it will be viewed by all our Members and guests attending lunch or events at the Inn.
This portrait not only celebrates the extraordinary achievements of one of our Members, but also reflects the Inn’s commitment to recognising women and diversity in law and ensuring we advance towards a more equitable vision of the legal profession.
Lady Rose joins a small group of exceptional women lawyers whose portraits hang at the Inn: Lady Hale, Rose Heilbron and Ann Goddard. A photographic portrait taken in 2019 of the four Benchers who were then Appeal Court judges also hangs in the Inn, featuring Lady Justices Anne Rafferty, Nicola Davies, Sarah Asplin and Vivien Rose.
This portrait was unveiled at a private ceremony earlier in October attended by Lady Rose, the artist and a small group of colleagues, friends and family.

“I am grateful to the Inn for the huge honour of having my portrait installed in our beautiful Hall. I hope that my success has justified the confidence the Inn kindly showed in supporting me when I was just starting out and that the painting will inspire future generations of young barristers to aim for success in our profession.”
About Lady Rose
Lady Rose is a Bencher of Gray’s Inn. She was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2019 and since 2021 has sat in the Supreme Court, the fourth woman to achieve this position. Her career was spent mainly at the employed bar in the Government Legal Service.
