All Members are encouraged to stay involved with the Inn after they have been called. Your life at the Inn does not end at Call night!
We are determined that Members, be it barristers, judges or Benchers, make the Inn’s extensive educational and collegiate activities both in and outside of the Inn a central part of their professional lives.
Education
The Inn’s Education and Training is reliant on the knowledge, generosity and willingness to help of the Inn’s barristers, judges and Benchers based across England and Wales. Without this, it could not run the schemes and substantial programme of events designed to prepare students for life at the Bar. These include:
- Advocacy training and Qualifying Sessions
- Career development support including the Mentoring Scheme, the Court Pupillage (Marshalling) programme and Mock Interviews for students applying for pupillage
- Outreach opportunites for university students
- Scholarships for the GDL, Bar Course and Pupillage
- Volunteer with us

Barristers’ Committee
The Inn’s Barristers’ Committee is the voice of the Members of Hall and exists to convey their views to the Masters of the Bench. The Committee welcomes all input and ideas from barristers regarding life at the Inn, its events and all other affairs.
- Apply for the Barristers Committee Travel Fund
Whilst the Inn is undertaking more activities on Circuit, led and supported by the Barristers’ Committee Circuit Reps, the Travel Fund aims to increase participation by a wider proportion of the membership in activities at their Inn.
Once Members have completed their Qualifying Sessions it can be difficult for junior practitioners to find ways to engage and contribute. It is hoped that this twelve-month trial will give more Members the chance to benefit from the networking opportunities and the sense of collegiality attendance at their Inn can foster. Gray’s Inn is the professional home of all those Called to the Bar here and even with thriving and active Circuits this will always be the case.
Who can apply?
This scheme is open to Members of Hall (those who have been Called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn), who do not live in London, preferably who are in their first seven years post Call and who are travelling to the Inn for a social or governance event.
