Advocacy and Ethics Course in York for Bar Course students.

The programme includes:

  • advocacy exercises
  • ethics discussion sessions
  • a series of talks by prominent members of the Inn

The weekend also offers time in a relaxed and informal setting to meet and interact with barrister, judicial and Bencher Members of the Inn.

  • compulsory online case analysis session on Tuesday 30 April, 6pm

Who can attend: Open to current Bar Course student Members only

Cost: Students and barristers within 3 years of Call: £82

Qualifying Session

Qualifying Session (QS): 5 QS

  1. Consider equality, diversity and inclusion at the Bar
  2. Discuss implications of inequality and a lack of diversity and inclusion on the rule of law and the profession.
  3. Identify sources of advice, support and guidance realting to equality, diversity and inclusion issues.”

Advocacy training

  1. Practise delivering examination in chief of witnesses that is clear, well-organised and persuasive.
  2. Practise delivering cross-examination of witnesses that is clear, well-organised and persuasive.
  3. Consider content and advocacy skills for a closing speech.
  4. Demonstrate confidence in advocacy, incorporating feedback from trainers.

Ethics, standards and values

  1. Discuss ethical dilemmas in the context of professional practice.
