Bar Course Scholarships

In 2020, Gray’s will award at least £1.3 million in scholarships:

  • Residential Scholarships valued at £9,500
  • Bar Course scholarships up to £30,000

 I wouldn’t be able to continue my training without the funding. The scholarship is really important to the progression of my career.

2022 Applications

The next application period for 2022 Bar Course Scholarships:

  • opens Friday 17 September 2021
  • closes at midnight on Friday 5 November 2021

If shortlisted, you will be interviewed in late February or early March (exact interview dates are published on the online application form).

Bar Course Scholarships

The Hale, Bedingfield and Prince of Wales Scholarships are the Inn’s most prestigious Bar Course scholarships and are reserved for outstanding candidates of exceptional merit.

2021 Scholarships

Baroness Hale of Richmond Scholarships up to 4 £20,000 - £30,000
Bedingfield Scholarships up to 8  £5,000 - £30,000
Prince of Wales Scholarships up to 4 £5,000 - £30,000
Named Scholarships  up to 50  £5,000 - £30,000
Residential Scholarships  up to 14  value at £9,500

There are 14 Residential Scholarships available to those awarded a Bar Course scholarship. 

Named scholarships 

In 2019, additional named scholarships were established which were named after several prominent female members of the Inn to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919. This included The Baroness Hale of Richmond Scholarships in recognition of the lifetime achievements of our very own Master Hale, former President of the Supreme Court.
