The Inn is proud to display this new work depicting its senior Royal Bencher, King Charles III, by London-based Ukrainian sculptor Anatoli Cerny.
In November 2022 King Charles opened the Ukrainian Welcome Centre in London, a partnership initiative between the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, and the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy in London. Based in the crypt of the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Mayfair, the Welcome Centre is a hub of information for newly arrived refugees, and provides ongoing support for the community.
Meeting His Majesty at the event Cerny was inspired to start work on this sculpture. It is not a finished piece; the artist is raising money to make bronze casts from it.
Cerny is a refugee from the conflict in Ukraine. Born and based in Kyiv, his studio was destroyed in the 2022 invasion. He moved to London with his wife and daughter. Anatoli is a graduate of the Kyiv Academy of Arts and the Prague Academy of Arts. Anatoli’s sculptures are exhibited in collections around the world.
We would like to thank Patrick Browning, Member of the Inn, mentor and friend to the artist, who is responsible for arranging this loan.
