Paul Bishop
The King has appointed Paul Bishop to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Dominic Raab MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Guildford County Court with effect from Tuesday 3 January 2023.
Paul Bishop will be known as District Judge Paul Bishop. He was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 2008. He was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2019.

Master Shaun Smith
His Honour Judge Shaun Smith KC has been appointed as the Resident Judge at Derby Crown Court with effect from 7 December 2022.

Stephen Apted
The King has appointed Stephen Apted to be a District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Dominic Raab MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the Western Circuit, based at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court with effect from 9 January 2023.
Stephen Apted will be known as District Judge Apted. He was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1995. He was appointed as a Fee-Paid Employment Judge and as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber in 2020.

Robert Bright KC
The King approved the appointment of Robert Bright KC as Justice of the High Court.
Robert Bright KC will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Bright. He was Called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1987 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2018.
He will take up appointment on 11 January 2023.
The Lord Chief Justice will assign Robert Bright KC to the King’s Bench Division.
