The Inn is delighted to note the Judicial appointments of the following Gray’s Inn Members in December 2023.
Lisa Clarke
The King has appointed Lisa Clarke to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Alex Chalk KC MP and the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The former Lord Chief Justice deployed her to the South Eastern Circuit, based at the Court of Protection, with effect from 2 January 2024.
Lisa Clarke will be known as District Judge Lisa Clarke. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1995. In 2020, she was appointed as a Deputy District Judge, a Fee-paid Employment Judge, and a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Social Entitlement Chamber.

Heledd Llwyd Najib
The King has appointed Heledd Llwyd Najib to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Alex Chalk KC MP and the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The former Lord Chief Justice deployed her to the Midlands Circuit, based at Coventry Combined Court, with effect from 8 January 2024.
Heledd Llwyd Najib, previously known as Heledd Llwyd Williams, will be known as District Judge Najib. She was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1999. She was appointed as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, in 2019.

Mark Milliken-Smith KC
The King has appointed Mark Milliken-Smith KC to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Alex Chalk KC MP and the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The former Lord Chief Justice deployed him to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Kingston Crown Court with effect from 20 December 2023.
Mark Milliken-Smith will be known as His Honour Judge Milliken-Smith KC. He was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1986 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2004.

International Appointments:
Sir Anthony Smellie, the Cayman Islands’ former chief justice has been appointed to the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal. He is an Honourary Bencher of the Inn.
