Congratulations to our new Bencher, The Hon Mr Justice Robert Bright.

Standing Order 13.1 states that a Member of Hall appointed a Judge of the High Court shall ‘as soon as maybe after their appointment be proposed by the Treasurer in Pension for election as a Master and elected by acclamation’.

At the meeting of Pension on 18 January 2023, The Hon Mr Justice Robert Bright’s election as a Master of the Bench was approved by acclamation.

Who are our Masters of the Bench?

The responsibility for the organisation and running of the Inn is divided between the Masters of the Bench (also known as ‘Benchers’) in Pension and the Under Treasurer, its Chief Executive.

Barrister Members of the Inn are elected to the Bench in accordance with the procedures set out in the Inn’s Standing Orders and the Inn’s rules.
