The Inn is pleased to announce it has commissioned two new portraits of Members.
These paintings will be of Edith Hesling and Dame Vivien Rose, Lady Rose of Colmworth.
Edith Hesling was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn on 13 June 1923.
She owns the distinction of being the first woman to be declared an utter barrister by the Inn. A woman of firsts, Edith was elected as the first woman on the Northern Circuit and the first woman to preside over a County Court as a Deputy Judge at Macclesfield in 1946.
Dame Vivien Rose, Lady Rose of Colmworth was Called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1984. She was appointed a High Court Judge in 2013, to the Court of Appeal in 2019 and became a Justice of the Supreme Court in 2021. She was made a Master of the Bench of Gray’s Inn in 2013.
