Callees must wear a barrister’s gown over a dark suit or a dress/skirt suit with a hem line below the knee plus a jacket which buttons up and has full
length sleeves, along with one of the following:

  • A white wing-collared shirt with starched bands (tunic court shirt with attachable collar or plain wing-collared shirt – no pleats or black buttons)
  • A collarette over a white top
  • A white tunic or mandarin court shirt and collar with bands

Gowns and wigs

You must hire or purchase a barrister’s gown for the day. Book as early as possible from one of the following providers:

  • Marston Events – Attends on the day and provides gown hire and photography. A booking link will be provided. A small number of gowns may be available on the day if not pre-booked.
  • Stanley Ley (Optional)
  • Ivy & Normanton (Optional)

Wigs are available free of charge in the photography area for photos only. You are not permitted to wear a wig during the Call ceremony.

Footwear

Callees must wear black formal shoes, such as suit shoes, court shoes, flats, or low-to-mid closed toe heels. You may be standing for long periods and walking on uneven ground or stairs, so please choose footwear that is comfortable as well as formal.

Guests

Please ask your guests to dress as they might if attending a university graduation ceremony, i.e. smart daywear.
