Gray’s Inn Library holds 24 medieval manuscripts and also has a small collection of post-medieval manuscripts, mostly on legal subjects.

A collection of pre-1800 books is also held, including a 1477 edition of Statham’s abridgement and a collection of the works of Francis Bacon (1561-1626) many in the first edition.

A project to complete the cataloguing of the Library’s rare books is ongoing, but many have already been added to the online catalogue.

Accredited researchers should make a manuscript or rare book request to the Director of Library Services if they wish to consult any of the Inn’s collections.
